Opening of the new Cathedral Treasury Museum Chur on 29 August 2020

On 29 August 2020  the cathedral treasure museum opens in Chur. The museum is located in the south wing of the Bishop's Castle and in the immediate vicinity of the Cathedral. The opening is celebrated with two open house days on the 29. / 30. August 2020.
The Cathedral Treasury Museum has two collections. The first is the Cathedral Treasury itself, which is largely made up of relics and liturgical instruments. The important works of art originally belong to the medieval furnishings of the cathedral and the monastery church of St. Luzi. They impressively illustrate the 1500 years of ecclesiastical cultural history from the foundation of the diocese to the present day, as well as the cycle of Renaissance death pictures from the Episcopal Palace in Chur, the so-called Chur Dance of Death. The unique and monumental cycle of death pictures from 1543 are based on motifs by Hans Holbein d. J. (appr. 1497-1543), a fascinating work comprising 35 scenes.
