Chur is the capital of the canton Graubünden and has 37'000 inhabitants. The urban area is 600 m to 1800 m above sea level. Chur's local mountain Brambrüesch/Dreibündenstein, accessible by cablecar directly from the city, is 2174 m above sea level. 

As the oldest city in Switzerland, the capital of the canton Graubünden, otherwise known as Grisons, looks back at 5,000 years of civilisation history. Numerous archaeological sites, ranging from prehistoric through Roman to medieval, are evidence of Chur’s long past.
