St. Marintskirche, Altstadt Chur
Chur is the capital of the canton Graubünden and has appr. 40'000 inhabitants. The urban area is 554 m to 2'805 m above sea level. Chur's local mountain Brambrüesch, accessible by cableways directly from the city centre, is almost exactly 1'000 m higher than the city area (1'595 m). The ski area extends to the Dreibündenstein at 2'174 m, accessible by ski lift and chairlift.
As the oldest city in Switzerland, the capital of the canton Graubünden, otherwise known as Grisons, looks back at 5,000 years of civilisation history. Numerous archaeological sites, ranging from prehistoric through Roman to medieval, are evidence of Chur’s long past. Chur is not only interesting for history fans, but also for mountain lovers and railway enthusiasts as Chur is an ideal starting point for unforgettable mountain and railway adventures. Chur is the hub to world-famous destinations such as Arosa, Davos, Lenzerheide, Flims/Laax and starting point for various railway adventures with the Rhaetian Railway.
