In times when humans are preparing to destroy the earth, such a social revolution as Orwell designs would be a comforting utopia: animals take the things of life into their own hands, or rather paws and claws. Society is reconstituted – without capital, surplus value and money. Everyone is equal.

Ranisch and Rupf climb into the ring of the many animal figures and demonstrate in an exemplary way how a new "togetherness" is created, in which everyone is supposedly doing well; some of course a little better, but not everyone knows that.

Orwell's novel bears the deliberately trivializing subtitle "A Fairy Tale". But fairy tales are not always beautiful. They are sometimes brutal: wolves eat grandmothers, stepmothers murder daughters, witches end up in the oven.

And what Orwell initially comes across as a harmless children's story turns out to be a hard-hitting, satirical indictment of totalitarian systems. Because as soon as everyone is equal, some become more equal and the clever pigs expand their supremacy into a dictatorship...
