Chur at the beginning of the 1950s. The whole area is in a state of turmoil after the red-bearded Zoltan has broken out of the mental hospital, the wing for "mentally ill sex offenders." Less than two days later, at dawn on a May day, Landjäger Caminada and his friend Lieutenant Marugg have to move out: an unknown caller has reported to the police station in a disguised voice that a gruesome crime has taken place on the sheep pasture on the outskirts of Chur. The two shepherdesses, they are sisters, lie dead in the knee-high grass - but there is more ... Then he hung up. The crime scene testifies to something terrible. The search for the powerful Zoltan continues under high pressure, because the crime matches one he committed thirteen years earlier in the Schanfigg. Another lead leads Caminada and Marugg to the "Wild Man", a dive bar with shady characters.

Philipp Gurt was born in 1968 as the seventh of eight children of a poor mountain farming family in Graubünden and grew up in various children's homes. Gurt wrote short stories as a teenager, followed by his first novel at the age of twenty. He has always had an intimate relationship with nature, which was also to shape his highly atmospheric writing. His connection to the canton of Graubünden, where he still lives today as a freelance writer, can be felt in each of his novels.
