Death takes them all

From 6 to 9 March 2025, Origen's Passion Concerts will be performed in the Knights' Hall of the Episcopal Castle. The conductor Clau Scherrer interprets the Musical Exequies by Heinrich Schütz and compositions by Claudio Monteverdi for voices, cello, theorbo and organ with the Ensemble Vocal Origen. As part of these concerts, the Chur Cathedral Treasure Museum invites you to exclusive guided tours that focus on the fascinating images of death in the castle's former wine cellar. The moving cycle of pictures, completed 500 years ago by Hans Holbein the Younger, allows an examination of the transience of life and the hope of resurrection. The Death Pictures offer a special introduction to the concert: Heinrich Schütz's Musical Exequies are among the most intimate and artistic funeral compositions in music history.
