Fog in the village: Lea Catrina and Flurina Badel

Independently of each other, even without knowing each other, the two authors Lea Catrina and Flurina Badel have written two novels that are dedicated to the same highly topical topics: housing shortage, overtourism and the class gap in Graubünden. Flurina Badel's "Tschiera" was written in Vallader and set in the Lower Engadine. The text tells of the unavoidable need to say goodbye to a place that is no longer the home it once was. Lea Catrina's "Waldbad" is set in the fictional town of the same name in Graubünden and focuses on overtourism, social inequality and the often silent struggle of the locals for their homeland.

The authors talk about what prompted them to write their novels and provide an insight into their literary work.

The reading is in German, Sursilvan and Vallader, with German translations by Ruth Gantert.

Lea Catrina is a Swiss writer and poet. She is the author of the novels "WALDBAD", "MY BOY" and "Die Schnelligkeit der Dämmerung" as well as "ÖPADIA – a Novella us Graubünda. In 2023, WALDBAD was awarded a literary work grant by the Canton of Graubünden. Catrina currently lives with her husband and son in Flims, where she was born and raised.

Flurina Badel, born in 1983 in Lavin. Initial training as a journalist, Master of Fine Arts in Basel and studies of language arts in Vienna. Awarded a Swiss Literature Prize 2020 for her first volume of poetry "tinnitus tropic".
