The Comic Theatre of Signor Goldoni

Goldoni's well-known comedy of mistaken identity "The Servant of Two Masters" on the stage of the Chur Theatre!

The miserly Venetian merchant, Pantalone, wants to marry his daughter, Clarice. But the wedding with her boyfriend Silvio falls through, because suddenly Federigo Rasponi appears, to whom Clarice was actually promised because her father, Pantalone, is in debt to him. This Federigo Rasponi should actually be dead, at least that's what they said. However, no one suspects that it is not Federigo, but his disguised sister, Beatrice, who has arrived in Venice. With her comes the servant, Truffaldino, who doesn't hesitate for long to take a second job with someone Beatrice alias Federigo is actually looking for. So Truffaldino becomes the servant of two masters who know nothing about each other and the great confusion begins.

At the Schauspiel von Konzert und Theater St. Gallen, which has been directed by Barbara-David Brüesch from Chur since 2023/24, a new version of Goldoni's most-performed play "The Servant of Two Masters" will be staged, combined with the work "Das komische Theater" also by Goldoni, in which the exciting question of what is more important is to be clarified: the text or the play?

For several years now, the Zurich director and actor Max Merker and the Bernese author and dramaturge Martin Bieri have formed a duo that combines comedy, slapstick, physical theatre and critical discourse in a very idiosyncratic way in a light-footed and entertaining way.
