Der "Tunnelweg" im Safiental

Mountain bikers are rarely inspired by asphalt roads. The ascent to Alp Sura above Bonaduz is a laudable exception - the fantastic view of the Surselva and the Chur Rhine Valley more than makes up for the fact that you don't roll along on single trails.

Description

From the start in Safien, Carfil we send you straight down to the small, artificial Egschi Lake and on to a varied and special tunnel section on the right side of the valley. Comparisons with the "Alter Schin" between Thusis and Lenzerheide are quite appropriate. A few narrow and wide single trails alternate with long, enjoyable gravel roads. The dark tunnels and the impressive views into the depths of the Rabiusa River are unique in the Safien Valley. Stopping and enjoying is almost mandatory here.

Now there are 800 metres of altitude difference on the road to Alp Sura. After about two-thirds of the route, you can treat yourself to a snack on Alp Il Bot during the summer season - this can be quite motivating.

Alp Sura is the start of the crossing of the sunny slopes of the Heinzenberg. You can often enjoy it on alpine roads. But there are also longer, challenging trails. Sometimes horizontally, sometimes with energy-sapping short climbs. The Parsiras mountain inn is located on the Parsiras mountain pasture and invites you to take a break for refreshments. Once you reach Lake Pascumin, it's not far to Lake Bischola and the steep single trail descent back to the Safiental. If you want to fortify yourself again, you can do so in the summer Alpbeizli Bischola. The trail is partly smooth to ride, but partly also quite demanding. Once back at the bottom of the valley, the tour leads back to the starting point at Lake Egschi on the sometimes challenging trail of the Walserweg.

If you are travelling from Chur, you can also join the route above Bonaduz at Sigl Ault.
